Special Friends Camp

Special Friends Camp and Special Friends Winter Retreat are events for adult individuals (age 18 and older) with cognitive disabilities. The purpose of these events is three-fold: 

1.  to share about our most special friend, Jesus;
2.  to provide an experience that participants do not usually encounter the rest of the year;
3.  to give caregivers a break from daily responsibilities.

Our Special Friends, each with their own unique set of abilities and challenges, travel across the state to attend these events. Both the camp and retreat are held at Camp Copneconic, a YMCA camp located in Fenton, Michigan (just south of Flint). 

Winter Retreat (February 17-19, 2012)
Our Winter Retreat is offered on a weekend in February. Even though the retreat is a shortened version of summer camp, it is certainly not short on activities. Campers participate in…

Summer Camp (July 29 - August 2, 2012)

• Archery
• Talent Shows
• and more. 

Some people tend to think of our participants by what they cannot do, but we like to think of our Special Friends by what they can do! Each participant is a gift from God. It is our joy and privilege to offer these experiences to these wonderful individuals.
