Publicity
The Communications Department of the Michigan District is available to assist Committees and Taskforces in publicity of Michigan District events. Below are a few examples of products the Communications Department has done for various groups. We can offer you assistance in promoting your event through such things as Brochures (with or without tear off Registration), Postcards, Program Booklets etc. We also offer publicizing through our magazine Michigan In Touch, our Weekly E-bulletin, and the District Website.
Please contact Deb Fall for more information.
Websites for Congregations
At this time the district does not have any programs available to assist with website design/hosting.
However, there are a few things you will want to consider.
1. Purchasing your domain name ... www.yourchurch.org. Typically you can purchase the domain name for various increments, 1 year, 2 years ... 5 years, 10 years ... the longer the length typically the cheaper the price per year which in the long run would save the church money versus having to renew it each year. You can research domain name purchases on google/yahoo etc. You should be able to get them for no more than $7-10 per year. I wouldn't suggest paying any more than this for a domain name.
2. You will then need someone to "Host" your domain name. You can often have the company that you purchased the domain name from host your site for an additional monthly fee or you can check to see if your current internet provider will do this for you and it may be a service you are already paying for as part of your internet service.
3. Designing your website: Check with members of your congregation to see if anyone has any website experience. You will be surprised who has talents you aren't aware of ...
4. There are also many programs available that you may already have that work well for designing a basic website. (Microsoft Word ... etc have the capabilities of saving the file as a html file for the web.
5. The other option would be to advertise for a webdesigner and you may be able to find one that would be able and willing to work within your budget versus hiring a design firm who would charge you much more. If you have a college nearby you could even contact their computer department and may find a student in the design field that would be willing to design it (at a minimal cost) or no cost at all and may do it as part of a project for class.
