Concordia Seminary Events
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis will be holding an alumni reunion May 27-29 on the Seminary campus. The event is open to graduating classes from years ending in 3 or 8. Concordia Seminary, St. Louis is hosting two visitation events for high school youth this summer. The first is Exploring Church Careers Event (ECCE) July 19-22. This is an opportunity for high school youth to visit with church workers in various professions. The second event, ECCE Amplified, held July 22-25, is for ECCE participants who feel a particular calling to the pastoral ministry or service as a deaconess. The cost is a $50 registration fee plus travel costs. Lodging and meals are provided at no cost. Sign up for the Relay For Life! - The American Cancer Society is teaming up with Concordia University Ann Arbor to host a Relay For Life walk on Saturday, June 28, beginning at 10:00 a.m. During the 24-hour event, teams will walk around the track at Concordia’s Rummel Field, north of Geddes and the main campus. Concordia University Ann Arbor announces that its 17th Annual Cardinal Classic Tournament will be held at the scenic Polo Fields Golf Club in Ann Arbor on Monday, September 8. Join in for a fun day of golf, fellowship and good food. A lower entry fee is being offered this year with an early bird rate of $140 per person, if payment is received prior to July 31, 2008. After July 31, the rate changes to $160 per person. Entry entitles you to 18 Holes of golf including a golf cart, giveaways, lunch and dinner. Because CUAA is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, a portion of your registration will be tax deductible. Plans are underway for the 2008 Michigan District Senior High Gathering of 9th-12th graders at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island. The dates for the gathering have been set for June 29 - July 2, 2008. There is room for 1200 at this inspirational gathering. Speakers, musicians, breakouts sessions, and servant events are all highlights of the gathering. Registration is now open. Organ Students from the studios of Dr. Marilyn Mason & Dr. James Kibbie from the University of Michigan will perform this monumental work; Friday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m. – Festival Concert – Dr. Christopher Cock, Conductor. Festival Orchestra and soloists will perform: J.S. Bach Brandenburg Concerto #1; Cantata # 82 “Ich habe genung” for Bass Solo, Dan Eifrig, Bass; Cantata #51 “Jauchzet Gott in alle Landen” for Soprano Solo, Maura Janton-Cock, Soprano. The Partners for Bethany, Detroit will host the Maroon and Silver Spring Ball on Friday, May 30. The Maroon and Silver Spring Ball is the first annual fundraiser formal event. Loon Lake Lutheran Retreat Center (LLLRC) in Hale. Two National Youth Servant Events will take place at LLLRC this summer. Youth, ages 16 & up, are encouraged to work hard, grow in Christ and
with one another. Painting, new construction, repair, games, outreach, offsite exploration, great
food and bible study are on the docket. Week #1 (June 27-July 2, 2008) costs $175 per person
and includes fourteen meals, five nights lodging, and a t-shirt. Week #2 (July 12-16, 2008) costs

The Lutheran Activities Organization (LAO) has recently been granted permission to participate in the Catholic Youth Organization Football League for the 2008 Fall season. Participation is open to all boys who are baptized and whose families are members of an LCMS congregation or student of one of the LCMS day schools and actively participate in confirmation classes or equivalent. Wheat Ridge Opportunities
Wheat Ridge Grants
Wheat Ridge Ministries is offering financial assistance to Lutheran congregations that are supporting and encouraging the health and wellness of church leaders by providing sabbatical experiences for pastors and other full-time professional church workers in the congregation. Any Lutheran congregation developing a sabbatical plan for a pastor or other church worker within the grant guidelines may apply. The maximum amount per grant is $7,500 per congregation and the congregation must match the grant amount provided. During the pilot phase of this grant, up to ten grants will be available annually and no more than one grant will be provided to a congregation. The grant is to be used specifically for sabbatical experiences for professional church workers. Congregations interested in applying for a Wheat Ridge Sabbatical Resource Grant can visit www.wheatridge.org (Grants) to review the requirements and determine whether the grant is appropriate for their needs and to download a grant application. CALL Ministries in Michigan
CALL Immigration Service offers pro bono immigration service for those recent immigrants who cannot afford legal fees. CALL Urban Ministries(Christ’s Compassion for All) a registered non-profit 5013c was given certification by the US Board of Appeals of the BCIS(Board for Citizenship and Immigration Service) last year. About one half of clients from west Michigan are given free service while others pay approximately $25 per hour. The office is staffed by two certified volunteers. Pastor Rod Otto, director of CALL Urban Ministries at Redeemer in Grand Rapids is running the 5th/3rd Riverbank Run to raise $2000 for the workers’ training in Miami next week to update their certification.
CALL Ministries finds, supports, and trains ethnic workers for ministry in West Michigan.
Florencio Lopez serves two worshiping communities while studying at Concordia Seminary, St.
Louis through EIIT (Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology) under his adjunct mentor in Michigan. The worshiping communities are called Rey de Reyes and meet at Christ Our Savior in
Holland (Sunday 1:00 p.m.) and at Redeemer in Grand Rapids (Saturday 3:00 p.m.). Zion,
Holland has added support for this ministry, which began as a self-supporting church plant.
CALL has also mentored Hong Li, a mandarin Chinese worker enrolled for the next year
in EIIT, and has worked with other workers from Sudan, Ethiopia, Samali, and Korea.
