Early Childhood (PS- Grade Three)

Elementary School (Grades 4-8)

High School (Grades 9-12)

Purpose:

The Michigan District is blessed with faithful teachers who provide children an academic foundation for successful living. More importantly, they support parents in the faith development of children and model a lifestyle that reflects the positive characteristics described in scripture. This award, designated into three distinct categories, seeks to Glorify God by recognizing servants who use their talents and abilities to further the Kingdom and promote academic success.

Criteria:

A nominee must:

  • Be currently serving in a Michigan District Early Childhood Center, Elementary School or High School.
  • Have a minimum of three years experience in the teaching ministry.
  • Be recognized for both academic excellence and modeling the faith in the classroom and community. In addition, the teacher should inspire children to learn, constantly be seeking to improve themselves or learn new skills, encourage colleagues and parents and present a positive model of a Michigan District Lutheran Educator.
  • Be nominated by a colleague, parent of a student, alumni, present student. The nomination will be located on the Michigan District website and be completed electronically. The supervisor will be asked to support their nomination.
  • Submit a typed answer to the question: "How does my teaching promote spiritual growth and academic excellence?" This will be emailed to Carol Williams at carol.williams@michigandistrict.org.
  • Agree to be recognized, if chosen, at either a School Chapel or Sunday Morning Worship Service. 

Selection:

All entries must be received by Friday, March 16th 2012. The Michigan District Early Childhood Cabinet will select the EC Award winner and the Michigan District School Committee will select the winners of the other two awards. Winners will be recognized in the month of May at their place of ministry.

Award:

Each winner will receive a sculpture recognizing their expertise in the teaching ministry, and have their name displayed on a plaque at the Michigan District Office.
