Church and School Secretaries, Administrative Assistants, and Business Managers are invited to the 2017 Office Personnel Conference!

This conference is so much more than just a few days away from the office.  This is a chance to network, bring great ideas back to your church and school, connect with the Lord, and renew your passion for this profession.  So join us as we delve into our theme of working heartily for the Lord.

Compassion Ministry Project

On Sunday, April 23rd, the Michigan District Office Personnel Conference attendees will be filling gently used purses with beauty products for domestic violence victims living in domestic violence shelters around the Metro Detroit and Saginaw-Bay areas. These women often have to leave everything behind, including their beauty products which we all know helps to enhance our self-esteem. These purses will be given to women in time for Mother’s Day.

Please consider bringing gently used purses and/or new beauty products.  Donations will be collected at registration.

The day after her 46th birthday, Deb suffered from a stroke (left brain hemorrhage) which required her to have extensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy. She considers it a blessing to be able to walk, talk, and still have some independence, especially after doctors had said she would never walk and talk again, and that she was lucky to be alive. She is a miracle from God.

Deb has always had an interest in massage and all the benefits it has to offer. Even with the inability to utilize her right arm, she loves serving others with the gift of massage. She graduated from the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy in August of 1997. Deb and her husband, Tom, have been blessed with four children and twelve grandchildren.

She has also served in various ministerial capacities such as church administrator, Christian education director, church business manager, and youth pastor. She is currently a curriculum developer and serves as the executive director of the International Association of Certified Church Administrators. Katie Black, co-founder of Contemporary Christian Worldwide Academy (CCWA) is a Lutheran preacher’s kid. Before she became a Christian life coach and vision mentor, she was playing it safe as an elementary school teacher.

Four years ago, Katie heard and answered God’s call to help Christians use the power of their faith to bring their dreams to life. Using her social work degree from Texas Christian University, her 11 years of teaching experience, and her own years of biblical research, Katie is helping Christians discover and live the unique vision God has for them.

Katie, along with her feisty Chihuahua, Cookie, lives near her family in Sacramento, Calif. Katie has held workshops across the United States, in Hanoi, Vietnam, and will be speaking in Hong Kong in 2017.

Julie Black, co-founder of Contemporary Christian Worldwide Academy (CCWA), is mom to Katie. She has been married to an LCMS pastor for 47 years. In 2007, in the midst of her busy life as a registered nurse, God called her to serve her parents when they needed care in their final years.

Shortly after they went to be with their Lord, Julie felt God calling her again. By being open to Him, she discovered a whole “self-help” manual in God’s Word that she never understood before.

Julie and Katie broke God’s teachings down into easy steps and strategies that brought about huge changes in their lives. And they knew they needed to share it with others.

Julie and her husband live outside of Sacramento, Calif. with their two toy Dachshunds, Tillie and Tootsie. She knows firsthand that you’re never too old and it’s never too late to accomplish your dreams when you partner with God.

Office personnel are sometimes considered the face of the school/church. We are taxed with helping students, teachers, board members, principals, and pastors, all while multi-tasking with deadlines and phone calls. Plus … we are asked to do this with a big smile on our face. In this session, we will cover the importance of serving others wholeheartedly, and how that can help draw people closer to Jesus.

This training will provide the audience with:

  • Basic training around the role and process of reporting suspected child abuse and neglect;
  • Information about the role of the faith-based community in reporting suspected abuse and neglect;
  • Details about what happens after a report is made.

Colin Parks works for the Michigan Department of Human Services as the Statewide Program Manager for Children’s Protective Services and Family Preservation Program Office.  Mr. Parks has worked with the department for 19 years, nearly all of that time spent children’s protective services; first as an investigator, supervisor and policy writer.  Mr. Parks attended Michigan State University for both his undergraduate degree in psychology and his Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work.  Needless to say- Go Spartans!
