Campus Ministry in Michigan

If you have a student at a major university in the state of Michigan, chances are there is a campus ministry available to them. Rev. Dr. Randy Duncan (Pastor of Campus Mission, Michigan District Campus Ministry Network) put together the following list describing each ministry and what they offer. The list is organized alphabetically by university.

Central Michigan University

At Christ the King Lutheran Chapel, campus ministry is about creating a place where students can worship Jesus, grow in their faith, and build real friendships.

Students gather for:

1. Divine Service on Sundays at 11 a.m., followed by a relaxed lunch together around noon. Students who love traditional worship will feel right at home here.
2. Evening Prayer on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
3. Bible Study on Thursdays at 6 p.m., followed by student events like Thursday Socials, pickleball at the CMU Student Activities Center, and movie nights.

There is a welcoming community here shaped by historic traditional worship, good conversation, and simply doing life together.

Eastern Michigan University

At Cross and Resurrection Lutheran Church, the Chapel at EMU is creating several opportunities for students to connect, grow, worship, and hear about Jesus.

Students gather for:

• Friday Night Pancakes every Friday during the academic year from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. for free pancakes and waffles. Hundreds of students come through the doors!
• Discipleship & Bible Study every other Wednesday at 7 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. on Discipleship Nights.
• Wednesday Worship Jam every Wednesday at 7 p.m., bringing students together through music, worship, and community.
• Sunday Worship at 10:40 a.m. with one blended service.
• Sunday Meals with a free lunch for students and families immediately following worship, around noon.

Ferris State University

At Harbor, the campus ministry at Ferris State University, students and young adults are invited to get connected, grow in their faith, and build meaningful relationships with one another and with the people of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Harbor is a weekly gathering open to adults ages 18–26; whether you are a student or not, you are invited!

Students and young adults gather for:

• Weekly Harbor Gatherings every Tuesday during the Ferris State school year.
• Dinner at 6 p.m.
• Group and Devotions beginning at 6:30 p.m.
• Community and Conversation in St. Peter’s Community Room.

Michigan State University

At Martin Luther Chapel, students at Michigan State University have found what the ministry describes as a true “church-away-from-home.” Located just two blocks north of the MSU Union on Abbot Road, Martin Luther Chapel serves as both a place of worship and a hub for student community. One of the great practical ways the ministry serves students is through its own scheduled mini-bus, which picks students up around campus before Sunday worship and major events.

Students gather for:

• Bible Study on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
• Sunday Worship at 10:30 a.m.
• Campus Events and Community throughout the year.
• Transportation to worship and major events through the chapel’s student mini-bus.

Michigan Technological University, Houghton

At Michigan Tech, the Concordia Lutheran Student Center, or the CLSC as it is affectionately known, is the center of campus ministry life. It is a place where students gather to study the Bible, share meals, build friendships, serve, relax, and simply do life together.

Students gather for:

• Weekly Bible Studies and Campus Ministry Events
• Monthly Student Suppers
• A Place to Study, Relax, and Build Community
• Service Projects and Ministry Opportunities
• Student Leadership, with housing available for six students who live at the CLSC and serve in leadership roles within the campus ministry.

The campus ministry partners with Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, where students and the broader community gather for:

• Contemporary Worship on Sundays at 8:30 a.m.
• Traditional Worship on Sundays at 11 a.m.

College students are an important part of the life of this congregation, with approximately 40–50 students regularly participating in weekly worship, Bible studies, service projects, and events.

Marcus Huff serves as the Director of Campus Ministry and leads the effort to reach and serve students at Michigan Tech University, Gogebic Community College, and college-age adults throughout the area.

Northern Michigan University, Marquette

At Redeemer Campus Ministry, students at Northern Michigan University are invited to connect with others, grow in their relationship with Jesus, and find encouragement during their college years.

The ministry gathers at the Redeemer Campus Ministry House, conveniently located directly behind Spalding Hall and easy for students to access.

Students gather for:

1. Bible Study and Fellowship on the first and third Sundays of each month at 3 p.m.
2. Community and Connection at the Redeemer Campus Ministry House.
3. Opportunities to Grow in Faith and Build Relationships throughout the year.

Redeemer Campus Ministry partners with Redeemer Lutheran Church, where students and the broader community can gather for several worship opportunities:

1. Informal Praise on Saturdays at 5 p.m.
2. The 906 Service on Sundays at 9:06 a.m.
3. Traditional Worship on Sundays at 11 a.m.

University of Michigan

University Lutheran Chapel (ULC) is a vibrant community centered on Jesus, worship, and life together. About 300 students and residents worship together, creating a wonderful mix of students, families, and the broader Ann Arbor community.

Students and the ULC community gather for:

• Sunday Worship Gatherings during the academic year, with three services: a traditional service with organ music at 8 a.m., followed by contemporary services with a band at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
• Online Worship during the summer, with the contemporary 9:30 a.m. service livestreamed each Sunday on the chapel’s YouTube channel.

• Student Gatherings on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. during the academic year. Students gather for a meal and time together before worship, hearing a message, and breaking into smaller groups for discussion and Bible study.
• The Common Cup, ULC’s coffeehouse in the lower level of the chapel.

Western Michigan University

At Solid Grounds Student Ministry, Western Michigan University students have opportunities to connect with one another, grow in their faith, and experience the love of Jesus in the middle of campus life.

Students and the campus community gather for:

• Student Gatherings every Monday at 6 p.m.
• WMU Staff Bible Study every other week from 11 to 11:30 a.m.
• Staff Lunch on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Solid Grounds partners with Zion Lutheran Church, where students and the broader community can gather for worship:

• Saturday Worship at 5:30 p.m.
• Sunday Worship at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
